X^a^2 is equivalent to x^2a. Using this property, the denominator is x^2b. Another property of exponents is that you can subtract the exponents if they have the same base. Since x^2a and x^2b have the same base, you can simplify that to x^2a-2b which is equal to x^16. Therefore, 2a - 2b = 16. Divide by 2 to get a - b = 8.  Alternatively, you can use systems of equations and then solve for both a and b, which are 5 and -3 respectively.
