They want you to subtract 5/8 from 2/3.  When adding/subtracting fractions you need a common denominator, generally it is best to use the least common multiple.   (which is the product of the highest occurring primes from each of the numbers prime factorization)  In this case the least common multiple is: 3=3 and 8=2*2*2 so the LCM is 2*2*2*3=24 so (2/3)(8/8)-(5/8)(3/3) 16/24-15/24 1/24
