2x - 4 = 40 so I put 4 under both of them and crossed it out 2x = 44 I got rid of the -4 on the left side X=22 I got rid of the 2 on the left side by dividing it and making the answer for 1 x be simple and x=22

[latex] \frac{2(x - 2)}{4} = 10 \\ \\ \frac{x-2}{2} = 10 \\ \\ -1 + \frac{x}{2} = 10 \\ \\ \frac{x}{2} - 1 = 10 \\ \\ \frac{x}{2} = 10 + 1 \\ \\ \frac{x}{2} = 11 \\ \\ x = 11 \times 2 \\ \\ x = 22 \\ \\ [/latex]
The final result is: x = 22.
