What happened on January 15, 1991 the deadline for withdrawing from Kuwait passed. This was a deadline set by the United Nations and this prepared the way for the start of Operation Desert Storm. This led to the larger Gulf War which was a coalition of thirty four countries who were led by the United States to attack Iraq after it had invaded and annexed Kuwait. Immediate sanctions had been put on Iraq once the war had started before the intervention of the countries.
