f(x) = -x^2 would have a vertex at the origin. The equation for a parabola where the vertex is NOT at the origin, but is at (h, k) is: f(x) = (x-h)^2 + (y-k)^2 If options 2 & 3 were simplified they would have an (h,k) that is not (0,0)
