Which represents the solution(s) of the system of equations, y = x2 – 2x – 15 and y = 8x – 40? Determine the solution set algebraically.

Eliminate 'y' by equating  8x - 40 = x^2 - 2x - 15  x^2 - 2x - 8x - 15 + 40 = 0  x^2 - 10x + 25 = 0  (x - 5)(x - 5) = 0  (x - 5)^2  Hence x = 5 is the only solution for 'x'.  Substitute in to the linear eq;n for 'y'  y = 8(5) - 40  y = 40 - 40  y = 0  Hence the solution in ( x,y) form is ( 5,0).
